Meet the Founder
Ephesians 6:12-13 KJV so eloquently reads “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand…”
Nicole Eason-Melvin is a Licensed Practical Nurse, humanitarian, and motivational speaker whose life journey is a powerful testimony of faith, resilience, and transformation. As the founder of One Day At (a) Time, Nicole is on a mission to bridge the gap between mental health awareness and the faith-based community.
From a young age, Nicole faced the harsh realities of abandonment and trauma. Placed in foster care at the age of three, she was exposed to emotional wounds that would shape her early identity. Though later adopted into a loving home, Nicole struggled with feelings of rejection and the emotional scars of her past, leading to a diagnosis of Major Depression.
Despite her internal battles, Nicole remained deeply rooted in her faith. She became known for her vibrant spirit and unwavering devotion to God—leading gospel choirs, organizing worship services, and creating spiritual spaces wherever she went, including during her time in the military and Job Corps.
However, behind the smile was a woman silently suffering. Nicole’s journey included abusive relationships, homelessness, and multiple suicide attempts. It wasn’t until a pivotal moment in 2011—when a psychiatrist told her, “It’s okay to not be okay”—that she began to embrace healing without shame.

Nicole’s healing journey included therapy, medication, exercise, meditation, and continued spiritual growth. Through this process, she became acutely aware of the stigma surrounding mental health in both church and community spaces. She recognized the silence and misunderstanding that often prevent individuals from seeking help. In response, Nicole founded One Day At (a) Time, a movement dedicated to breaking the silence around mental health, especially within faith communities. Her mission is to empower others to heal, grow, and thrive—one day at a time. Nicole’s story is not just one of survival, but of purpose. She is a living example that healing is possible, faith and mental health can coexist, and that every life has value—even in its most broken moments.
